Erik Spoelstra, the coach of the Miami Heat team, has been appointed head coach of the United States men's basketball team, with a mandate until the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, according to the announcement from the American Basketball Federation.
Spoelstra, at the age of 54, stated that it is an honor to represent the country and to lead world-class athletes in prestigious competitions, emphasizing his commitment to excellence and teamwork.
In the past, he was an assistant coach for the Olympic team for Paris 2024 and collaborated with Steve Kerr on the team that finished fourth at the 2023 World Cup. The USA has an impressive record, with 17 Olympic titles, including five consecutive from 2008.
