FC Barcelona will file a complaint with UEFA following the display put on by Paris Saint-Germain supporters before the match played at the Parc des Princes. The banner, titled “The Parisian Massacre,” showed a masked person wearing the French champions’ jersey, holding a chainsaw and destroying the emblem of the Catalan club.

The incident took place moments before the start of the match, amid a tense atmosphere between the two Champions League rivals. According to the Catalan press, FC Barcelona considers the message completely inappropriate and reported the situation to the UEFA observer present at the stadium during halftime.

The Catalan club also requested the removal of some banners bearing insulting messages directed at Barcelona, including “Puta Barça.” The team officials stated that the rivalry should remain on the field of play.

UEFA is expected to decide whether to open disciplinary proceedings against PSG. In the event of sanctions, the French club could receive a fine and even risk the closure of the sections where the display was shown.

Context: UEFA has recently intervened in sensitive and security-related situations at matches in European competitions

Before the Champions League matchday, UEFA announced a moment of silence for the victims of the floods in Nepal and the display of a banner reading “You are not alone, Nepal,” following the tragedy on August 26.

At the same time, UEFA recently also explained a decision regarding fans’ access to matches: Romanian spectators were banned from the stadium at Giulești for Hapoel Beer Sheva – Sabah, and the European governing body indicated that the measure was taken for security reasons in the context of the conflict in Israel.
