Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition is ahead of the opposition bloc after half of the votes cast were counted, according to data published Wednesday by the Israeli Electoral Commission, a day after the parliamentary elections in which the incumbent prime minister is fighting for his political survival.
After 50.1% of the ballots had been counted, Mr. Netanyahu's right-wing Likud party and its allies had won 56 of the Knesset's 120 seats, compared with 49 for the opposition bloc and 15 for the Arab parties.
The opposition bloc, which includes the Yashar, B’Yachad, Yisrael Beytenu and Democrats parties, is expected to win 47 seats, according to the CEC.
