Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party won the most votes in Tuesday's elections, but neither of Israel's two political camps has a clear path to forming a government, according to the Channel 12 exit poll, reports The Times of Israel. Other exit polls confirmed this trend. While awaiting the official results, Gadi Eisenkot, Netanyahu's main rival, called on the prime minister to resign, while Netanyahu expressed confidence in victory.
Kan 11 and Channel 13, two of the country's most important television stations, updated their exit polls with new data, indicating that Netanyahu's and Eisenkot's blocs are tied, with 51 seats each. A majority requires 61 lawmakers.
Another 17 or 18 seats would go to smaller parties, including representatives of Israeli citizens of Arab origin.
