The world champion Argentina qualified with great emotions in the knockout stage of the World Cup, defeating the Cape Verde team 3-2 after extra time, on Saturday morning, in Miami. Although they were heavy favorites, the Argentinians had a difficult match, with Cape Verde managing to come back twice. Lionel Messi opened the scoring in the 29th minute, marking his 7th goal in this edition of the competition.
Cape Verde equalized through Duarte in the 59th minute, but Argentina regained the lead through Lisandro Martinez in the 93rd minute. Cabral equalized again for Cape Verde in the 103rd minute, but Romero secured victory for Argentina in the 111th minute, with FIFA counting the goal as an own goal by Borges. In the knockout stage, Argentina will face the Egypt team.
