Vlad Plahotniuc, former leader of the Democratic Party, is facing a request for a 30-day arrest in the Metalferos cases and the one regarding passport blank forms. This comes after the arrest measure in the 'Bank Fraud' case was extended for the same duration. The case prosecutor, Victor Cazacu, argued that there are risks of evasion, committing new crimes, and influencing the criminal prosecution, considering that all these risks are present in Plahotniuc's case. Although prosecutors continue to investigate, Plahotniuc has refused to make statements. His lawyer, Lucian Rogac, challenged these actions, arguing that there is no solid legal basis and that the reasons are of a political nature.
Plahotniuc, who was extradited from Athens on September 25, denies the charges and is in preventive detention at penitentiary 13. The lawyer also mentioned that the conditions in his cell are bearable, but he could not confirm whether he is satisfied with the situation. Plahotniuc is being investigated in five cases, but only one has reached the court.
