The Republic of Moldova could finalize its EU accession negotiations by 2028, says Vasile Pușcaș, former chief negotiator of Romania.

Vasile Pușcaș, former chief negotiator of Romania for accession to the European Union, stated that the Republic of Moldova has the potential to finalize accession negotiations by 2028, with extraordinary mobilization and acceleration of internal reforms, writes Știri.md, quoting Radio Chișinău.

He emphasizes the importance of simultaneously pursuing two objectives: accelerating negotiations and maintaining the quality of reforms.

Pușcaș explains that the opening of negotiations marks a complex stage, requiring the harmonization of national legislation with European legislation.

Moldova will need to present position documents for each chapter, which will be evaluated by the European Commission and the 27 member states.

According to him, the speed of the process is crucial, emphasizing that at this moment there is a favorable regional context for the expansion of the Union.

Key reforms include strengthening the rule of law, justice reform, and combating corruption.

Pușcaș believes that the Transnistrian issue will not block negotiations, but a solution will need to be found before the signing of the accession treaty.

Pușcaș argues that Moldova enjoys several advantages, such as the experience and support of Romania, as well as the fact that European legislation has already been translated into Romanian.

He recommends learning from Romania's experience to avoid mistakes in the European path.
