The Republic of Moldova has met the necessary conditions for opening the remaining two clusters of chapters in the negotiations for accession to the European Union, according to the European Commission’s annual enlargement report, presented on Wednesday at the European Parliament.
The document shows that, if it maintains the current pace of reforms, Chișinău can achieve its goal of concluding the accession negotiations by the beginning of 2028. European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said that the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine had demonstrated resilience and commitment to the European path. The Commission has prepared roadmaps for the two states that will set out priorities for next year.
According to the report, the recommendations addressed to the Republic of Moldova last year were largely implemented. For 2027, the European executive calls for the transparent completion of the reorganization of central public institutions, the continuation of local public administration reform, compliance with fiscal rules, and the strengthening of budgetary transparency.
The Commission’s assessment also mentions Russia’s pressure on the Republic of Moldova, as well as the effects of the war in Ukraine. The European Union reaffirms its support for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and for the peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian conflict.
