The Republic of Moldova is making progress in the process of joining the European Union, and a roadmap is expected to give the authorities in Chișinău a clearer picture of the steps and reforms needed to continue the negotiations.
The Republic of Moldova has already opened two negotiating clusters. Cluster 1, dedicated to fundamentals, was opened in June, while Cluster 6, concerning external relations, was opened in July. The authorities are currently working to open the remaining negotiating chapters.
At the EU–Moldova Association Council, held on October 5 in Brussels, European officials reaffirmed their support for the Republic of Moldova’s European path and highlighted progress in areas such as the rule of law, justice reform and the fight against corruption.
European Commissioner Marta Kos said that Brussels is considering opening two more clusters for the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine during the Intergovernmental Conference scheduled to take place in Luxembourg.
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan said that Chișinău’s objective is to complete the technical work and conclude the accession negotiations by early 2028. The government aims for the Republic of Moldova to be ready to join the European Union by 2030.
