European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, will visit Chișinău on Monday, November 9, and will deliver a speech in the plenary session of Parliament at 14:00. The official will present the next stages of the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union, as well as the commitments that the authorities must fulfill to comply with the integration timetable.
The announcement was made by the President of Parliament, Igor Grosu. The visit comes a few days after the publication, on November 4, of the European Commission’s Report on EU enlargement. The document shows that the Republic of Moldova has made progress in all 33 negotiating chapters, but indicates the need to continue reforms in the judiciary, combat corruption, and strengthen democratic institutions.
Chișinău has received a roadmap for the next stages of the negotiations, alongside Montenegro, Ukraine, and Albania. The document provides for the gradual integration of the Republic of Moldova into European policies, programs, and structures, including expanded access to the Single Market and cooperation in energy, transport, digitalization, security, and defense.
So far, four of the six negotiating clusters have been opened, covering 24 of the 33 chapters. The authorities want to open the other two clusters by the end of 2026, provisionally close 25 chapters in 2027, and complete the negotiations in the first quarter of 2028.
