Universitatea Craiova defeated Egnatia 2-0 / The Oltenians have reached seven points in the Conference League

Universitatea Craiova beat Egnatia 2-0 at the Ion Oblemenco Stadium in a match from the third round of the UEFA Conference League league phase. Alexandru Cicâldău and Nicușor Bancu scored in the first half, as the Oltenians secured their second consecutive victory in the competition.

The hosts started aggressively and came close to scoring in the 11th minute, when Bancu’s shot went wide. Universitatea Craiova took the lead in the 24th minute, after Cicâldău turned a ball into the net that the Albanian goalkeeper had parried from Assad Al-Hamlawi’s header. The goal was awarded after a VAR review.

The Oltenians’ captain extended the lead in the 32nd minute with a powerful shot from outside the box. Craiova continued to control the game in the second half, but failed to score again, although Cicâldău and Mora had chances.

Egnatia finished the match with 10 men. Bitri received two yellow cards within four minutes for fouls on Simon Elisor and was sent off in the 83rd minute.

Following this result, Universitatea Craiova moved to seven points in the Conference League standings. The Romanian champions had previously drawn with Getafe and beaten Inter Club d’Escaldes. Egnatia remain on two points.
