The simple motion against Foreign Minister Oana Ţoiu was rejected on Monday in the Senate plenary, with 44 votes in favor, 59 against, and one abstention. The leader of the AUR senators, Petrișor Peiu, criticized the minister's absence from the motion debate, emphasizing that Romania could have been represented by a state secretary at the meetings in Brussels.
Peiu described Oana Ţoiu's decision as an unprecedented act of defiance against parliamentary control. The opposition accused Ţoiu of poorly representing Romania's interests in the European decision-making process, especially regarding the EU - Mercosur Agreement.
Although the minister announced that she would not participate due to a busy external agenda, she stated that her presence at the Foreign Affairs Council is essential to convey a clear message from Romania. State Secretary Clara Volintiru will represent the ministry in place of Oana Ţoiu.
