The Romanian Senate adopted on Monday a bill that bans street advertising for gambling, recording 69 votes 'for', 42 'against' and two abstentions. The project provides for the amendment of Law no. 148/2000 regarding advertising, thus prohibiting the promotion of gambling in public spaces. Although the specialized committees issued a rejection report, the vote in the plenary led to the adoption of the initiative, initiated by liberal parliamentarians and from minorities. The explanatory memorandum emphasizes that the ban on street advertising will limit citizens' exposure, especially minors, to messages with addictive potential, contributing to the reduction of gambling addiction and protecting public health. The project will be sent to the Chamber of Deputies, which is the decision-making body.
