The Senate voted on a bill on Wednesday, 02.09.2026, which changes the rules for the practical test to obtain a category B driving license. According to the initiative, candidates will need to demonstrate basic technical maneuvering skills, essential for the safe control of the vehicle. The project received 74 votes 'for', 7 'against', and 17 abstentions.
The mandatory maneuvers include reversing, turning, parking, and stopping. Although the law imposes these maneuvers, the manner of execution and the evaluation criteria will be established by an order of the Minister of Internal Affairs, which must be updated within 90 days of the publication of the regulatory act. The Chamber of Deputies will have the final say in this legislative initiative. The project comes in the context of a European statistic that highlights the impact of speed on the severity of road accidents.
