The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, announced that he had a meeting with the MAVIS Artificial Heart team, which is working on the development of the smallest fully implantable artificial heart, an innovative project carried out by researchers and students from Iași. He emphasized the major impact that this invention can have for patients with advanced heart failure, as well as for medical research in Romania. The prototype is in an advanced stage of laboratory testing, and preclinical tests on animal models are planned for the next 12 months. If these tests are successful, Romania will become the first country in Eastern Europe to develop its own fully implantable mechanical circulation technology. Nicușor Dan also highlighted the importance of training a new generation of specialists in biomedical engineering, who can contribute to Romania's integration into the European advanced research ecosystem. He expressed his admiration and support for the MAVIS Artificial Heart team, emphasizing the need for students and researchers in this field.
