Nicușor Dan states that Romania has the potential to become an innovation hub in the defense industry, having a tradition and expertise in the field.

President Nicușor Dan stated that Romania has all the necessary conditions to become a hub for innovation and production in the defense industry in Southeast Europe. During a conference on industrial cooperation between Germany and Romania, he emphasized that, although the current context is challenging, it represents an opportunity for the Romanian economy.

Dan mentioned investments such as that of Rheinmetall, which will require local supply chains, facilitating technology transfer. Romania benefits from a tradition in this sector, having specialists with experience from the time when the country produced and exported defense equipment. He also highlighted that Romania has a solid technological education, and issues in the defense industry can be addressed with solutions previously developed in the automotive sector. Additionally, the existing infrastructure from the communist era provides favorable conditions for the development of the new necessary facilities.
