Adrian Torma, PSD mayor of the town of Moldova Nouă, loses his mandate for the third time because of the “Fritz amendment”

Adrian Torma, the PSD mayor of the town of Moldova Nouă, will lose his mandate for the third time following the entry into force of the amendments to the Integrity Law and their validation by the Constitutional Court. The measure directly targets him following an administrative conflict of interest established by the National Integrity Agency.

The act dates back to December 2016, when Torma signed a lease agreement with an association in which a relative was involved. The new legislative provisions, publicly known as the “Fritz amendment,” also have an effect in the case of the mayor of Moldova Nouă.

Torma stated that he would respect the law and begin transferring his duties to the deputy mayor after initial discussions with the local councillors. He said the measure was disproportionate in relation to how long ago the act occurred, but that he accepted the termination of his mandate.

This is the third forced interruption of his tenure at the helm of the town hall, a situation which he says affects the continuity of projects and the development of the town.
