The integrity law has been adopted, along with the amendment that leaves the mayor of Timișoara, Dominic Fritz, without a mandate, with 106 votes in favor and 9 against, causing controversy in the Romanian Parliament.

If it is not contested again at the CCR, the law goes for promulgation to President Nicușor Dan, who, in turn, can return it to Parliament.

Daniel Zamfir (PSD) criticized the intervention of European leaders in the legislative process, accusing that the priority is saving Fritz, not the national interest.

Gabriela Dumitrescu (AUR) highlighted the lack of transparency regarding the assets of dignitaries, while Daniel Fenechiu (PNL) stated that the liberals do not support the amendment on principle grounds, not for Fritz, but ultimately the liberals voted for it.

"Even if we do not agree with the CCR's decision, we must respect the decisions. For this reason, we acknowledge and respect the CCR's decision. We vote for Romanians and we will vote for this proposal, so that Romania does not lose the 770 million," said Fenechiu.

Sorin Țipoș (USR) accused PSD of using laws against the rule of law, and USR submitted a new form of the integrity law to protect Fritz.

The amendment has drawn attention at the European level, with political families demanding respect for the rule of law in exchange for European funds. The ANI law also includes a new form of asset declaration, which will make the assets of dignitaries more transparent.
