The interim Prime Minister, Ilie Bolojan, explained the PNL's vote for the Integrity Law, which includes a PSD amendment that could lead to the loss of Dominic Fritz's mayoral mandate.

In a message posted on Facebook, he states that although the provision is "immoral and incorrect," PNL prioritizes meeting the milestones assumed through the PNRR until the end of August.

The Prime Minister emphasizes, however, that "this law cannot remain as it is," specifying that the liberals will support its correction and will collaborate with USR in this endeavor.

The law was adopted with 106 votes "in favor" and is crucial for obtaining approximately 770 million euros from the PNRR.

Criticism also came from European leaders. PPE and Renew Europe leaders, Manfred Weber and Valérie Hayer, criticized the amendments made to the integrity legislation and called on the European Commission to condition the payment of PNRR funds on respect for the rule of law.

The European Commission will evaluate the law in the context of Romania's payment request, and Bolojan mentioned that the adoption of the salary law is also necessary to complete the PNRR milestones.
