The High Court of Cassation and Justice has ruled in favor of ANAF, maintaining the seizure of the companies European Food S.A. and Transilvania General Import Export, controlled by the Micula brothers. This precautionary measure was instituted to allow the state to recover the sums illegally granted to these firms, according to a decision by the European Commission from 2015. ANAF justified the seizure by identifying transfers of goods, and the court confirmed the legality of its actions.
"The High Court of Cassation and Justice has ruled in favor of ANAF in the 'Micula' case, confirming the legality of the measures to block the assets of the companies European Food and Transilvania General Import Export. This is an important decision, announced today by ANAF - which demonstrates that, through the will to restore justice, the state has the necessary tools to recover illegally granted state aid, amounting to hundreds of millions of euros. After years of attempts and lawsuits aimed at avoiding debt payment, justice has clearly established that ANAF acted correctly and in the interest of Romania," wrote the minister, Alexandru Nazare on Facebook.
