The Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, stated that tax evasion represents a direct theft from the citizen's pocket and emphasized the importance of using digital tools and advanced risk analysis to clean the market of unfair players. This position was expressed on his Facebook page, in the context of a recent discovery by the General Directorate for Fiscal Anti-Fraud (DGAF), which identified a damage of over 29 million lei owed to the state budget by an economic operator in the second-hand car trade.

The verified company abusively applied the special margin regime for the sale of cars, which led to a significant reduction in the declared VAT. ANAF discovered that the company used a repeated fraud scheme, accumulating debts by successively establishing companies, in order to subsequently request insolvency and avoid paying taxes. Checks are ongoing in collaboration with DNA, and monitoring of intra-community car transports is underway.
