The governing coalition discussed a new proposal to reduce the number of parliamentarians, opting for a 10% cut from the total number of senators and deputies, instead of reducing it to 300, according to the 2009 referendum. The president of UDMR, Kelemen Hunor, put forward this option, considering that the initial scenario is "totally unacceptable" and wanting to update the number of mandates based on census data. Sources from the Coalition suggest that the new proposal could have the support of all governing parties, but the final decision will be made in the coming weeks. Additionally, the subject was revisited after Ilie Bolojan asked PNL parliamentarians to support a law submitted by USR to reduce the number of elected officials, but UDMR threatened to withdraw from the government due to the possible reduction of mandates.
