The Chamber of Deputies is convening in an extraordinary session to debate the bill regarding integrity, reintroduced by PNL and USR after the previous version was rejected in the Senate.
On Monday, the committees will meet for discussions, and the plenary will vote on Wednesday. The project aims to amend the ANI law. The President of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, emphasized the need for transparency, warning against the unconstitutional amendments proposed by PSD, which would affect elected officials in conflict of interest. The new project excludes the controversial amendments, maintaining the obligation to include cash amounts in wealth declarations. PSD is considering reintroducing the contested amendment but may opt to adopt the law in its current form to avoid issues with PNRR. AUR announced that it will support the project only if it includes clear measures regarding incompatibilities and the transparency of wealth declarations.
The law must be adopted by August 31 to avoid significant financial losses for Romania.
