The political parties in Romania received subsidies from the state budget totaling over 15.4 million lei in April, according to data published by the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP).
In the reference month, the PSD received the largest amount, namely 5,132,729 lei, followed by AUR with 3,035,063 lei and PNL with 2,794,434 lei. Other political formations, such as USR, the S.O.S. Romania Party, POT, PMP, and the Force of the Right, received smaller funding, ranging from 68,955 lei to 1,983,467 lei.
The funds are used to cover the current expenses of the parties, including administrative activities and electoral campaigns. Although the public funding mechanism aims to reduce dependence on private donations and increase transparency, the level of subsidies and how they are spent have repeatedly generated public debates.
