The Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) will start on Tuesday, September 1, the financial checks on the main political parties for their activities in 2025. PSD, PNL, USR, S.O.S. Romania, and UDMR will be subject to control, with an estimated completion in November. In the case of a single party, the checks are postponed by one month.
AUR has requested that the checks begin only on October 1, to avoid overlapping with the control of the Court of Accounts, which starts on September 1.
The president of AEP, Adrian Zăbăuianu, mentioned that the control missions aim to ensure compliance with the legislation regarding the financing of political activities and electoral campaigns, including the verification of income, expenses, donations, and loans.
AEP can propose sanctions and the suspension of subsidies in case of irregularities.
For the fiscal year 2025, AEP plans to check 270 political parties. Of these, eight benefit from subsidies from the state budget.
