The AEP President calls for clear rules for influencers paid to do political advertising

The President of the Permanent Electoral Authority, Adrian Țuțuianu, stated on Friday that the legislation on financing electoral campaigns must be amended to clarify the situation of influencers paid to advertise politically and who, according to him, do not always pay their taxes and duties. The statement was made at a press conference and was quoted by News.ro.

Țuțuianu said that clearer rules are needed for financing through online platforms. He gave the example of donors who split payments into installments of less than 25,000 lei to avoid the obligation of authentication before a notary. In his view, repeating these operations may indicate the donor’s intention.

The President of the AEP also mentioned the need to regulate financing carried out through cryptocurrencies, the amount of donations, and the distinction between financing current activities and financing electoral campaigns. He also considers it necessary to clearly separate private financing from public financing.

Another subject raised by Adrian Țuțuianu is the mechanism for granting subsidies to political parties. He specified that the AEP only manages the payment of amounts approved through the state budget law, without determining their level or the beneficiary parties.
