Sorin Ioniță, the president of Expert Forum, stated that Kelemen Hunor should resign from the leadership of UDMR and withdraw from politics, after he supported the FIDESZ party in the elections in Hungary, which represents a second major failure in less than a year.
Sorin Ioniță emphasized that UDMR remains the representative of the Hungarian minority in Parliament, but cannot be led by a leader who has collaborated with anti-Europeans and has played a role in promoting national-security interests. He criticized the way Hunor managed relations with the Hungarian community in Transylvania, considering that he has put it in the service of Viktor Orban's interests. Ioniță anticipated that Hunor's argument will be that UDMR needs to collaborate with Tisza, but he emphasized that the minimum standard of integrity should be respected, even among Romanian parties.
