PSD leaders gathered in the National Permanent Bureau have decided to support Sorin Grindeanu for the position of prime minister, according to social-democratic sources. They also decided not to vote for a minority government that PSD is not part of.
The Permanent Bureau of PSD will meet on Wednesday to establish the next steps in forming a new Government and the mandate with which Grindeanu will participate in negotiations with other parties. Negotiations between PSD, PNL, and UDMR are expected to outline a parliamentary majority.
Grindeanu stated that PSD is ready to take on governance, and PNL and UDMR have shown willingness to support a minority government from the opposition.
The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, emphasized the need to accelerate the process of forming the new government, which could be a minority political government based on a prior parliamentary agreement.
