Siegfried Mureșan argues that reducing unnecessary spending does not mean austerity, but more money for schools, hospitals, and investments: “I want public money to reach people, not be wasted”

Siegfried Mureșan, prime minister-designate and Member of the European Parliament, argues that reducing unnecessary state spending should not be confused with austerity. In a post published on Facebook, he states that every leu spent without justification means fewer resources for schools, hospitals, infrastructure, and investment.

Mureșan criticizes the repeated use of the term “austerity” by politicians who oppose measures to make the administration more efficient and reduce the waste of public money. According to him, any attempt to put the country’s finances in order is portrayed by political opponents as a measure against the people.

The MEP argues that the objective is not to unjustifiably reduce spending, but to use public money more efficiently and improve the performance of state institutions. He says that the resources saved by eliminating waste must be directed toward citizens’ needs and the investments Romania requires.

“I want public money to reach the people, not be wasted,” concluded Siegfried Mureșan. The statement comes amid debates over measures to reduce public spending and the formation of the future government.
