Designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan promised on Wednesday that during his term in office, if he is invested, taxes and duties will not increase, and that the priority is economic growth, while special attention will be paid to companies in the energy and transport sectors and to making state-owned companies more efficient.
“The economy must grow faster than the debt. Only then can we bear the burden of public debt; if the debt grows, the burden on people will become increasingly greater. We will build on the good things of the Bolojan government. We will be responsible. I know that people have borne the brunt. The government will have only 3 deputy prime ministers, all of them with portfolios and ministries to lead,” Siegfried Mureșan said during a press conference.
The designated prime minister also said that they would see where they could streamline the operation of institutions in the central administration, including by merging institutions.
He emphasized that “we will invest in storage capacities and energy infrastructure, and we will support companies that make sense.”
At the same time, according to him, for each state-owned company, 12 months after taking office, he will present an efficiency plan and, depending on the situation, they will either be supported or listed on the stock exchange.
“We will help Romanian enterprises expand into the countries in the region. We will maintain the flat tax, there will be no increases in taxes or duties throughout my term in office, and we intend, as soon as possible, to return to the 19% VAT rate,” Mureșan also said.
