Sorin Grindeanu, the leader of PSD, announced on Facebook that Romania could register a third consecutive quarter of economic decline in 2026, which would mean an economic crisis, not just a technical recession. Recent data shows that GDP decreased by 0.2% in the third quarter of 2025 and by 1.8% in the fourth quarter. Grindeanu directs criticism towards former Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, arguing that the promised reforms have led to an economic contraction and not growth.

He also mentions an alarming increase in deregistered and dissolved companies, as well as a rise in unemployment, which has reached 6.3%. Grindeanu emphasizes that data from INS, ONRC, BNR, and IMF confirm the deterioration of the economic situation. If GDP decreases again, Romania will mark an economic crisis, while the interim Government will be able to support a potential stabilization.
