Rareș Bogdan calls on his PNL colleagues to vote in favor of mandatory school uniforms

Rareș Bogdan supports the introduction of mandatory school uniforms and calls on his colleagues in PNL’s Liberal Conservative Platform to vote for the bill currently before Parliament. The MEP says uniforms would reduce social differences among students and limit the risk of exclusion and bullying in schools.

In a Facebook post, Rareș Bogdan said that school should be a place where character is shaped, not a “fashion parade.” He cited the example of traditional educational institutions in the United Kingdom, France and Switzerland, where students wear uniforms regardless of their families’ financial circumstances.

The politician argues that uniforms, together with school symbols, convey rigor, tradition and belonging. He called on the 23 lawmakers in the liberal-conservative platform, including 17 members of the Chamber of Deputies, to support the bill.

The Senate approved the initiative with 84 votes in favor, 18 against and four abstentions. The bill provides for mandatory uniforms in state pre-university education.

The National Student Council and the Union of Hungarian High School Students in Romania oppose the measure and have announced a protest, during which students are being urged to wear black clothes. UDMR leader Kelemen Hunor has also criticized the bill and will ask the party’s deputies to vote against it.
