Sorin Grindeanu, the leader of the PSD, announced that the party will submit a bill in Parliament that will prohibit the closure of coal-fired power plants until alternative production sources are found.
Sorin Grindeanu stated that one of the solutions for the "crisis situation" is to restart two units at Turceni and Rovinari, each with a capacity of 330 MWh, to compensate for potential energy losses, especially in the case of the closure of Reactor 2 at Cernavodă.
“In this crisis situation when there is a risk of closing Reactor 2 at Cernavodă with a capacity of approximately 700 MWh, one of the simplest and quickest solutions is to restart another 2 Units at Turceni and Rovinari, each with a power of 330 MWh. The power of both is equivalent to what the only functional reactor at Cernavodă produces today!” Grindeanu stated on Monday in Parliament.
Additionally, Grindeanu requested the urgent convening of a Permanent Bureau in the Senate to introduce the bill in the extraordinary session.
Furthermore, the PSD leader asked the resigned Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to negotiate in Brussels the postponement of the deadline for closing coal-fired power plants: “I publicly ask the resigned Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to urgently go to Brussels and negotiate the postponement of the August 31 deadline for shutting down coal-fired power plants!”.
