In a broadcast on Europa FM, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan addressed the public's erroneous perception regarding the cutting of aid for people with disabilities. He explained that these aids remain intact, with beneficiaries being exempt from paying health contributions. Bolojan argued that the tax changes were necessary due to the pressure on the public system, with the number of beneficiaries significantly exceeding that of taxpayers. He also mentioned that people with severe disabilities benefit from a 50% reduction in property tax, while those with accentuated disabilities receive a 25% reduction. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of local revenues for infrastructure, while also acknowledging the difficulties faced by people with disabilities.
"Aid for people with disabilities has not been cut. When we introduced and expanded the payment of health contributions for Romanian citizens, we had 6.3 million payers and 16.5 million beneficiaries, and the system could no longer function. People with disabilities remained exempt, they were completely exempt from property tax, and indeed, now a property tax payment has been introduced that has some reductions: those with severe disabilities 50%, those with accentuated disabilities 25%. But this is a contribution to the local budget, because every house in Romania, regardless of who lives in it, needs water, sewage, and asphalt," said the Prime Minister on Europa FM.
