A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck the surroundings of Tokyo on Sunday morning, injuring 37 people, according to the Japanese Agency for Fire and Disaster Management.
The earthquake occurred around 2:00 AM (17:00 GMT) in the southern part of Ibaraki Prefecture, at a depth of 68 kilometers, without generating the risk of a tsunami.
The tremor was strongly felt in the capital, activating alert systems that broadcast messages to the population.
Regional train traffic was disrupted, and the meteorological agency warned of the risks of landslides and strong aftershocks in the coming days.
