Former Prime Minister Victor Ponta supported the decision of the Social Democratic Party to withdraw support from Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, stating that the break was "normal and necessary". He argued that the current coalition has been conflictual, in which PSD and USR are politically incompatible, comparing their relationship to "dogs and cats".

Ponta criticized the way the government was constructed, claiming that PSD could not accept a formula in which decisive influence would belong to a smaller party. At the same time, he said that the solution to the political crisis depends on the decisions of President Nicușor Dan and the ability to form a new majority, warning that internal instability overlaps with external economic tensions.
