Victor Ponta claims that the decline in living standards is the main reason why AUR and Călin Georgescu have managed to attract a significant electorate, while traditional parties are losing popularity.
The former PSD prime minister states that the current political class offers Romanians “circus,” through conflicts and political spectacles, but no solutions to concrete problems: insufficient income, lack of prosperity, and economic insecurity. In his view, people vote against established parties when they feel that the decisions of those in power directly affect their lives.
“If under Nicușor Dan and Bolojan people had been living better, they probably would have forgotten both Călin Georgescu and me, and people clearly feel that their lives are directly affected, except for a few of these crazed people who say: well, let’s die together. I told you, like that Buzăianu guy: sir, let’s die together, I’m so happy that we’re going to die together. I don’t want to die with you, Buzoianu, I want to live well. For you to live well too, if possible,” Victor Ponta told Gândul.
