PNL MEP Siegfried Mureșan states, on Wednesday, that he has told his colleagues in the party meeting that PNL has "the only correct option" to stay away from the new PSD-AUR majority.

"Here is what I said last night in the leadership meeting of the National Liberal Party:

The important moment for the future of the National Liberal Party is not the result of the motion, but the decision we make tonight. The National Liberal Party can be the main winner or the main loser of the current political situation, depending on the decision we make tonight.

At the beginning of this week, we had two good possibilities.

If the motion of censure had failed, it would mean that there would not have been an anti-reformist majority in the Romanian Parliament and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan could have continued the reformist governance.

Since an anti-reformist majority has formed in the Romanian Parliament, we have only one correct option: to stay away from this PSD-AUR majority.

I have the obligation to tell you the following things from a European perspective:

⬛️A government with PSD would be an anti-European government, not a pro-European government.

⬛️The pro-European character of a party is proven by action, not by declarations.

⬛️All of Europe has reminded us in these days of the anti-European character of PSD.

⬛️In recent years, when we went to Europe and tried to justify cooperation with PSD, we lost credibility.

⬛️Europe has not forgotten that PSD is a party that has attacked in the past European values, justice, and European institutions.

The majority of people in Romania want modernization. We have the obligation to build an offer for these people.

If we want to do what is good for us, we stay away from PSD. If we want to do what is good for PSD, we go alongside PSD.

When he became the party president, Ilie Bolojan found us at 8%. In a campaign week, he took us to 14%. In a year of governance, he took us to 20%. We can choose to grow alongside him or we can return to 8%.

If we go to govern alongside PSD, we will be compressed between AUR and a reformist political force that will be born.

If we stay away from PSD, we can be the leaders of the reformist political force.

The majority of people in Romania want modernization and reform." states Siegfried Mureșan.
