Siegfried Mureșan: “We will not have a dialogue with AUR. The moment of truth is coming for the PSD. Let’s see whether the PSD really wants to support a pro-European government.”

Designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan told RFI Romania that the PSD must decide whether it supports the investiture of a pro-European government or whether it is strengthening its political partnership with AUR. He called this decision “the moment of truth” for the Social Democrats.

Mureșan said he is open to dialogue with the PSD and that he will take all necessary steps to form and secure the investiture of the government. However, the designated prime minister wants to find out whether the Social Democrats are willing to engage in genuine negotiations or are merely looking for arguments to vote against the government.

According to Mureșan, the PSD plays a decisive role in securing parliamentary support. He recalled that the Social Democrats have repeatedly stated that they want a pro-European government and said that their vote will show whether this position remains valid or whether the party is in a strengthened partnership with AUR.

The designated prime minister ruled out any negotiations with AUR, official or informal. He stated that he will not go to the party headquarters and will not ask for its support, emphasizing that the party has so far not indicated that it intends to vote for the proposed government.

“After these three groups, I would be pleased if we could have a discussion with the group of national minorities as soon as possible, and then comes the moment of truth for the PSD. Let us see whether the PSD really wants to support a pro-European government and whether it is strengthening its partnership with AUR. Everyone knows that I am not a PSD member, but I will be open to dialogue and I will do everything within my power to facilitate the formation of a government and the passage of this government. We will not have a dialogue with AUR in the sense of discussing matters with them or altering our governing program as a result of requests they make. Obviously, we do not know how each AUR parliamentarian will vote. We cannot control parliamentarians, nor, for that matter, those from any other party, including our own parties. The vote is free. Parliamentarians vote according to their own conscience,” Siegfried Mureșan stated.
