Siegfried Mureşan does not want the PSD brought into his government, but asks for the Social Democrats’ votes in Parliament: “Romania can be governed by the PNL, together with the USR and UDMR, or by the PSD. We can no longer govern together with them”

Designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan announced that he does not intend to include the PSD in the future government, arguing that the two parties can no longer govern together after their experience over the past year.

Mureșan accused the Social Democrats of failing to honor the commitments they made during the period in which they were part of the government. In this context, the designated prime minister maintains that a new political collaboration would not be possible.

“As such, either them or us, but not together,” declared Siegfried Mureșan, summarizing his position on bringing the PSD into the executive.

“I believe Romania can be governed by the PNL, together with the USR and UDMR, or by the PSD. We can no longer govern together with them, after the experience of the past year, when they failed to honor their commitments and when they brought down the government of which they were a part. As such, either them or us, but not together,” Mureșan replied.

He also referred to negotiations with each parliamentarian individually, beyond the decision made by the parties’ central leadership.

“In the European Parliament, whenever I was responsible for negotiating a law, I always had the European Socialists on my side, and I always treated the parliamentary groups with respect and discussed matters with the parliamentary group as a whole. As such, we will have an organized, frank dialogue with the PSD. They know that I am not a member of the PSD; there are many things on which we share common views, but this will be a moment of truth for them: Will the PSD support a pro-European government that will do good things for Romania, or will it strengthen its partnership with the AUR? Therefore, we will treat them with respect, as a parliamentary group; we will not try to divide the parliamentary group,” Siegfried Mureșan also declared.
