Dragoș Pîslaru accuses Sorin Grindeanu of applying a double standard in the case of Siegfried Mureșan

Dragoș Pîslaru reacted on Wednesday to Sorin Grindeanu’s request for Siegfried Mureșan to resign from the European Parliament before taking office as prime minister-designate. Pîslaru claims that the PSD leader is applying a “double standard,” since he did not make the same request in July, when Eugen Tomac had previously been designated for the position of prime minister.

In a message posted on Facebook, Pîslaru stated that Tomac had been proposed for a cabinet in which PSD was a participant, without Grindeanu asking him to resign from the European Parliament. He described the request now addressed to Mureșan as “absurd” and claims that it is exacerbating the political deadlock.

Grindeanu stated that Mureșan’s resignation would demonstrate the seriousness of his intention to lead the Government. In the absence of this gesture, the PSD leader said that the prime minister-designate would be engaging in “just a cheap political game.” PSD announced that it would not support the proposed cabinet, making it more difficult to obtain the majority required for its investiture.

Siegfried Mureșan, a PNL Member of the European Parliament and vice-president of the EPP Group, was designated by President Nicușor Dan after consultations with the parliamentary parties.
