Petrișor Peiu said on Monday that he learned live, on Antena 3 CNN, about George Simion’s decision not to participate in the consultations convened by President Nicușor Dan at Cotroceni Palace. The meeting aims to appoint a new prime minister, after the Government proposed by Siegfried Mureșan failed to receive the Parliament’s vote of investiture on September 30.
Peiu said that he was unaware of the AUR leader’s announcement and that Simion had not communicated the decision to him. However, the senator stated that he would go to Cotroceni together with the party’s delegation, which has a mandate to request the organization of early elections and call for an end to the “spectacle of handcuffs.”
At the same time, Peiu criticized President Nicușor Dan’s position, stating that he does not understand his constitutional duties. Asked whether he considered the head of state a “usurper,” a term used by George Simion, the AUR senator avoided adopting this wording, arguing that he is not a specialist in the legal field. Simion had announced that same morning that he would not participate in the consultations because Nicușor Dan “does not deserve” his presence.
