USR MP Oana Țoiu stated on Tuesday, October 20, in the joint plenary session of Parliament, that the PSD is at the “last moment” when it can obtain full political power through a one-party government. The statements were made in the context of parliamentary debates regarding the new Executive.
Țoiu argued that the PSD will not receive the same opportunity in the future, amid declining public confidence and the party’s political results. The USR MP stated that the party had lost half of its own votes following the periods associated with the leadership of Liviu Dragnea and Marcel Ciolacu, and cited data according to which four out of five Romanians would not trust the Government’s political composition.
The parliamentarian accused the PSD of no longer being able to hide the difference between its political decisions and Romanians’ expectations through attacks against the USR. At the same time, she argued that Romania has the resources to reform itself and gave the USR’s experience in government as an example, mentioning competency-based recruitment and the identification of spaces in public institutions that were kept unused or unknown.
Oana Țoiu also said that the USR’s objective is to limit the effects of PSD policies and to build, together with political partners and citizens who want a future in Romania, a majority considered capable of meeting society’s expectations.
