Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu emphasized the importance of political will for the implementation of essential reforms in Romania, during a period marked by a persistent political crisis. At the 'The Economist Romania Government Roundtable' conference, Gheorghiu compared the country's situation to a ship in a rough sea, with a fire on board, where not everyone involved is focused on solving the problems. She denounced the lack of political cohesion and emphasized that politicians are responsible for the stagnation of reforms. Gheorghiu called on citizens to put pressure on decision-makers, stating that Romanians are no longer satisfied with electoral handouts, but want decent public services, running water, roads, and an efficient educational system.
She encouraged the active involvement of civil society and the business environment in this endeavor, highlighting that Romania has the necessary resources to succeed, but that real political will is needed to make progress.
