Oana Gheorghiu, the Deputy Prime Minister of Romania, stated on Digi24 that the presidential institution deserves respect and it is essential to build trust in it. In the context of AUR's initiative to suspend President Nicușor Dan, Gheorghiu characterized the move as a "PR exercise" and warned that such an action could harm Romania.
She emphasized that, although PSD and AUR have collaborated in the past, she hopes they will act wisely in this situation. Gheorghiu highlighted that Nicușor Dan cares for the well-being of Romania, mentioning his interventions in discussions related to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and efforts to mediate between political parties. She concluded that the president is trying to ease conflicts and bring parties to the table for constructive discussions.
"I believe this is a PR exercise, because if someone really wants to harm this country, this is what they should do now, seriously, to ask for the suspension of the president. Now I don't know... PSD and AUR have joined forces at certain moments. I still hope they have some wisdom and I hope they care about Romania," said Oana Gheorghiu.
