Member of the European Parliament Siegfried Mureșan, proposed by PNL, USR, and UDMR for the position of prime minister, emphasized on Facebook that the suspension of the president of Romania, initiated by AUR against Nicușor Dan, should not be trivialized.
He explained that, according to the Constitution, suspension can only occur in cases of serious violations of the fundamental law, which is not the case at present. Mureșan highlighted the destabilizing effects of previous suspensions, referring to the situations in 2007 and 2012, when the suspension of former president Traian Băsescu generated instability.
He characterized AUR's proposal as an institutional assault, not a democratic confrontation, emphasizing the importance of distinguishing between democratic debate and dangerous actions.
Mureșan confirmed that PNL will not support an attempt to suspend the president, reiterating the clear position of the party leader, Ilie Bolojan.
