George Simion calls for Nicușor Dan’s suspension and accuses him without evidence of involvement in Călin Georgescu’s case: “He gave the order for his handcuffs”

AUR President George Simion called on Thursday for the suspension from office of President Nicușor Dan, in a message posted on Facebook, interpreting a statement by the leader at Cotroceni about snap elections.

Simion claimed that Nicușor Dan considered snap elections “bad” for citizens and interpreted this position as an anti-democratic signal.

The AUR leader also claimed that Nicușor Dan “ordered the handcuffs to be put on Călin Georgescu,” in the case in which the former presidential candidate is accused of fraud, without presenting evidence to support his allegation.

In his message, he explicitly called for the president’s suspension.

In an interview with Antena 3, the President of Romania stated that he does not want snap elections and urged dialogue to end the political crisis.

According to the Constitution, suspension may be initiated by at least one-third of the parliamentarians and must be approved by a vote of the majority of deputies and senators, following consultation with the Constitutional Court. The decision would then be put to a national referendum.

At the beginning of August, AUR launched the “suspeND.ro” platform, intended to monitor parliamentarians who support the initiative.
