PSD President Sorin Grindeanu said on Tuesday that the intention of some Social Democratic lawmakers to sign AUR’s motion to suspend President Nicușor Dan reflects dissatisfaction within the party, but noted that the initiative is not a priority for the party. The PSD leader said that Romania currently needs a stable government and measures to relaunch the economy.
Grindeanu said that dissatisfaction with the nomination made by the president is not limited to lawmakers, but is also present among local elected officials, PSD members and supporters. He said that, following the failure of four right-wing prime ministers, it was only natural for the mandate to form the government to be entrusted to the PSD, the party that won the elections.
The subject was also discussed at the party meeting. Grindeanu said that lawmakers who sign the motion will not be expelled, stating that he does not consider the president’s suspension a political priority at the current time.
The statements came after AUR spokesperson Ștefăniță Avrămescu announced that the party had sent the list to the PSD to support the motion. According to him, at least one PSD lawmaker was expected to sign the initiative, while other Social Democrats could do the same. AUR is seeking to gather support for the procedure to suspend President Nicușor Dan.
