Marius Budăi: “Better to have early elections than to vote for a prime minister who announces to us that he will continue the Bolojan government”

PSD MP Marius Budăi said Monday that his party would prefer early elections to voting for a government that would continue the policies associated with the Bolojan government. The reaction came after MEP Siegfried Mureșan reportedly warned that the PSD’s refusal to support the new executive could lead to early elections and economic instability.

Budăi argued that the PSD should not vote to continue austerity, tax increases and cuts to incomes, which he described as “primitive measures.” He said the Social Democrats’ vote to dismiss Prime Minister Bolojan represented a choice for change, not for maintaining the same political direction.

The PSD MP also rejected the argument that the failure to invest the new government could push Romania toward instability or into the “junk” category. Budăi attributed these risks to the previous government and accused the executive of reducing consumption, cutting investment and causing job losses. He also criticized the idea that the PSD would be moving closer to AUR if it did not vote for the proposed government, arguing that the party had previously supported keeping the dismissed prime minister in office.
