Before the resignations were announced, Ilie Bolojan presented the PNL’s direction: the liberals discussed a bilateral political agreement with Prime Minister-designate Luca Niculescu for a period of six months, without the party taking over government, and said that during the first six months it would neither initiate nor vote for motions of no confidence against the Executive, provided that the conditions of the agreement were respected.
At the same time, Bolojan insisted that parliamentary support for the investiture of the Niculescu Government depended on ending the caretaker period, arguing that the Executive was facing budgetary problems and that some institutions might not have sufficient funds until the end of the year; Interim Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu added that the PNL would decide its position after analyzing the program and the government team, while also pointing out that the vote would not be “a blank check.”
